Light in the Trees

A memoir of home, nature, and change set in the American West, Gail Folkins' Light in the Trees makes cultural and environmental topics personal as Folkins shares the story of her life in a small Pacific Northwest town, and later, the Southwest. She invites us into her coming-of-age against a background of Sasquatch myths, serial killer realities, and turbulent volcanoes beneath serene mountaintops. She explores challenges of the natural world—from wildlife habitat and water quality to a changeable climate and wildfires—and her place in it. And we're delighted to welcome Folkins to share her reflective journey with us at this special reading, signing, and book launch party.

Gail Folkins Gail Folkins often writes about her roots in the American West. Her nonfiction book Texas Dance Halls: A Two-Step Circuit was a popular culture finalist in ForeWordReviews's 2007 Book of the Year awards, while her essay "A Palouse Horse" was a Notable Essay in TheBest American Essays 2010.
