Reading & Book Signing
A richly imagined novella set in a future long after humanity's end, Lawrence M. Schoen's Barsk brings to life a universe inhabited by walking, talking, sentient animals. Among them is a race of anthropomorphic elephants who have developed Fant, a drug which allows certain users to commune with the recently deceased and reveals a secret the powers that be would prefer to keep buried. Joining us for a reading and signing, Schoen will share his adventurous and philosophical story and explore its profound themes of loyalty, sacrifice, prophecy, memory, predetermination, conspiracy, and intolerance.
Lawrence M. Schoen holds a Ph.D. in cognitive psychology and psycholinguistics. He's also one of the world's foremost authorities on the Klingon language, and the publisher of a speculative fiction small press, Paper Golem. He's been a finalist for the John W. Campbell Award, the Hugo Award, and the Nebula Award. Lawrence lives near Philadelphia.
