"The Bear" from Go Down Moses by William Faulkner

Tuesday • July 7 • 1pm

Bellevue Store

Feed your body and your mind. Bring your lunch and join us on the first Tuesday of each month at 1pm to talk books at the Book Bites Book Club.

Composed of seven interrelated stories, all of them set in Faulkner's mythic Yoknapatawpha County, William Faulkner's Go Down, Moses examines the complex, changing relationships between blacks and whites and man and nature, weaving together to create a cohesive novel rich in implication and insight. One of Faulkner's most impressive stories, "The Bear" recounts an annual hunting trip and the development of a young man against the background of vanishing wilderness. Through the hunt, the boy learns about his family's past, the destructive nature of greed, and the real meaning of pride, humility, and courage.

The Home Place by Carrie La Seur

Wednesday • July 8 • 5:30pm

Bellevue Store

You bring the book and we'll provide the alibi. Join us on the second Wednesday of the month at 5:30pm for a discussion of the mystery genre's gems.

A mesmerizing, emotionally evocative, and atmospheric literary debut, Carrie La Seur's The Home Place tells the story of a successful lawyer who's pulled back into her troubled family's life in rural Montana in the wake of her sister's death. It is a story of secrets that will not lie still, human bonds that will not break, crippling memories that will not be silenced, and guilt that even forgiveness cannot ease. Most of all, it is a tale of the place we carry in us always: home.
