The Whatsits are a crew of five picture book builders (a.k.a. author/illustrators) from the upper left corner of the left coast who talk about BOOKS, but not just any bookspicture books!
Wendy Wahman is the author-illustrator of Don't Lick the Dog and A Cat Like That, and the illustrator of Snowboy 1, 2, 3, written by her husband, Joe Wahman. Don't Lick the Dog was selected as a 2010 Bank Street Best Children's Book of the Year, starred for Outstanding Merit and was accepted into the Society of Illustrators Original Art Show. Wahman's editorial illustrations have appeared in major publications including Harper's Magazine, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and Harvard Business Review.
Elizabeth Rose Stanton studied art history in college and went on to earn a graduate degree in architecture at Columbia University. After working as an architect and designer, she stepped away from a professional career to raise her family. Since then, she has worked as a portrait and fine artist, designer, and scientific illustrator. She now devotes herself full time to writing and illustrating picture books for children. She lives in Seattle with her husband and three Scottish Fold cats.
Jennifer K. Mann is a children's book author and illustrator on Bainbridge Island, just across from Seattle, in beautiful Puget Sound. She lives there with her husband and two children, four chickens, a cat, and two lively dogsa big one named Lottie, and a small one named Cody.
She once was an architect and spent many years designing stores for a big architecture firm in Seattle. Then she had children, and started reading beautiful picture books to them. She realized then that what she really wanted was to be a picture book author and illustrator.
Kevan Atteberry writes and illustrates books for children. He lives in the Pacific Northwest near deep, dark forests, where stories hide behind every tree. He enjoys crows, the color purple, and banana cream pie. Some books Kevan has illustrated for children who are the perfect age for this book include Tickle Monster and Boogie Monster by Josie Bissett.
Ben Clanton is a children's book authorstrator as well as an editor-at-large for the Little Bigfoot imprint of Sasquatch Books. He has spent most of my time on this planet reading, drawing, playing basketball, gardening and eating waffles. He lives in Tacoma, WA with his wife, Kelsey (a photographer and designer!), his son, and a wild goldendoodle named Gigi.
